Manas Ranjan Sura

Manas Ranjan Sur is from Gopalpur, Orissa. Sur was from a middle-class family. He has always watched his father Baidhar Sur weaving. Manas never believed that weaving is a good profession to choose. But later he realised the skilled hands and creative heart can only weave and Manas has that in his blood. Three generations of his family had worked as a weaver. Sur added that “we had this business for 3 generations now and it makes me happy to adopt this skill from my father”. Manas has completed his primary education due to financial crises. After which he joined his father in the family business to earn a livelihood. COVID has hit many small businesses and Manas business is one of them. Sales have come down, workers are fighting to earn a livelihood and whatnot! Tussar silk, Gicha and Eri silk sarees and stoles are specialities of MRS Handloom. Manas and his team wait for the orders so that they can at least not sleep empty stomach.
